During our Study Tour in Ottawa, a notably unique experience the interns enjoyed was visiting the U.K. High Commission. We were honoured to have the opportunity to explore the new establishment on Sussex Drive, comprising a state-of-the-art building within the Earnscliffe National Historic Site.

Following a brief tour of the building, the interns had the opportunity to meet with Deputy High Commissioner, David Prodger; and Diplomats, Giorgia Racis, Cameron Ballester, and David Barnes; as well as Cara Steele, Bilateral Engagement and Estates Support, and Project Officer.

The meeting encompassed an insightful conversation ranging from a variety of subjects in regards to U.K.-Canada relations. Specific highlights include our discussion on climate change impacts, the development of nuclear energy, as well as the role trade policies play on international scales. Each diplomat offered subject matter expertise in their respective fields, and collectively shared a wealth of insights and knowledge from personal experiences. We also spoke about ongoing projects and the future outlook for both the U.K. and Canada in global affairs.

We would like to share our sincere gratitude to the High Commission for creating this opportunity for us, as well as Dave, Giorgia, David, and Cameron for taking the time to share their perspectives with the interns. We would also like to thank Cara for hosting our tour of the consulate.
