During our study tour in Ottawa, the interns were delighted to meet with Gabriela Loredana Alexandru, Head of Political Affairs Section, Delegation of the European Union to Canada.
With the capital city horizon behind us, the EU hosted us at a roundtable of member states. It was an opportunity to discuss Canada-EU relations at their heart, as well as raise our own interests as they related to international relations, trade policy, and other political areas.
Over the course of our conversation, we discussed Canada's role in the evolving international order, fluctuating economic priorities with the US as well as European states, and diplomacy in action. We also learned about the role the EU Delegation plays in providing accessible information to the public, its efforts to strengthen youth engagement, and its broader approach to fostering dialogue between Canadians and the European Union.
Speaking with Gabriela offered us an avenue to draw from her personal experiences as a delegate of the organization, as well as to learn about the objectives of the European Union. Altogether, it was an incredibly nuanced, enlightening meeting that both inspired and informed us of global affairs.
We would like to thank Gabriela for taking the time to meet with us and sharing her generous insights and experiences!
