For my first placement, I am working with MPP Andrea Khanjin from the riding of Barrie-Innisfil. MPP Khanjin is also the Parliamentary Assistant (PA) to the Minister of Environment, Conservation and Parks.
Over the past few months, I have been warmly welcomed by PA Khanjin’s team at Queen’s Park and at the constituency office. Some highlights of my time here have been shadowing PA Khanjin to meetings with stakeholders and researching issues that affect the constituency of Barrie-Innisfil. I have especially appreciated the opportunity to apply my education in Geography and Environmental Studies to some of the research and briefing notes that I have completed for PA Khanjin.
Although I have lived in Ontario for most of my life, this is the first time that I have had the opportunity to focus on learning about Barrie-Innisfil. This riding is particularly interesting because of its inclusion of both rural and urban communities who have a diverse set of policy concerns. I am looking forward to spending more time in the riding in the next few months, and working on longer-term research projects.
