Placement Posts - Jeremy with MPP David Piccini

I have the great pleasure of working with MPP David Piccini for my spring placement. MPP Piccini is the Member for Northumberland – Peterborough South and the Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Colleges and Universities. He is one of the youngest Members of the House and has considerable experience in policy, business and leadership roles. I have enjoyed seeing the dynamic approach he brings to his work.

I appreciate how MPP Piccini and his Executive Assistant Tory Pearson have made me feel like a part of the team since day one. In the weeks leading up to the COVID-19 pandemic, I had the chance to work in the Ministry of Colleges and Universities. I wrote statements and speeches for MPP Piccini, helped to schedule meetings, conducted research on various issues, and responded to constituent inquiries.

Once the pandemic was declared, MPP Piccini quickly transitioned to helping his community deal with this new reality, and it has been rewarding to assist him in this capacity. My favourite task so far has been working on his website www.covidsupports.ca, which is a comprehensive guide to all the available supports for individuals and businesses. I help write content for the website and keep it up to date. I have also responded to constituent emails, briefed MPP Piccini on a variety of issues, drafted communications materials, conducted research, and assisted with various other tasks.

I am so grateful for how MPP Piccini’s team of constituency staff have encouraged me and made me feel welcome. I am enjoying being a part of this office during this unprecedented time, and I hope that at some point I will be able to visit the beautiful riding of Northumberland – Peterborough South.
