I am working with MPP Tom Rakocevic for my first placement. MPP Rakocevic represents the riding of Humber River-Black Creek. He is also the Opposition Critic for Transit and the Vice-Chair of the Select Committee on Emergency Management Oversight.
Humber River-Black Creek is an interesting riding with racial, cultural, religious, and socio-economic diversity. I have become acquainted with the constituency office where I have been able to learn more about constituent engagement and outreach.
It has been eye-opening and humbling to learn about the breadth of experiences, challenges, and opportunities facing the riding. I have been able to connect with constituents, community organizations, and schools. I am also contributing to research that supports briefing notes, speaking notes, and a Private Member’s Bill.
MPP Rakocevic is a dedicated community advocate who has lived and worked in the riding. He ran in three elections prior to becoming MPP and previously worked alongside Toronto City Councillor Anthony Perruzza. This is evident in his longstanding relationships with countless constituents who approach MPP Rakocevic with issues they are experiencing in education, disability supports, consumer services, landlord and tenant issues, and workplace safety.
