Placement Post- Alex with MPP Judith Monteith-Farrell

For my second placement, I am working in the office of Judith Monteith-Farrell. MPP Monteith-Farrell is the NDP representative from Thunder Bay-Atikokan. She was elected to the legislature for the first time in 2018 and serves as the critic for Natural Resources, Forestry and Mines. Prior to her election, Judith used her career to advocate for workers across the province. She has also served as a volunteer for the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Friends of Quetico Park and the United Way Board.

Something I’ve really enjoyed about working in the office are the staff meetings. Even though we’ve all been working remotely, the conversations we have as a group are friendly and make me feel like I’m working at the Legislature or in the constituency. The acceptance I feel in the office is reflected in the kinds of projects I am assigned to work on. Judith and the MPP’s EA, Tim, have given me a wide variety of projects and case files to choose from. I have been lucky enough to try my hand at letter writing, speeches for the introduction of PMB’s, research for her critic portfolio and a host of constituency related tasks.

The diversity of assignments has given me a good feel for the kinds of business that MPP’s and their staff juggle on a day to day basis. I want to thank MPP Monteith-Farrell, her constituency staff Karli and Micaela as well as Tim, who has made a huge effort getting me involved in the work of the office. I am looking forward to the next couple of months working with them.
