On November 27, the OLIP interns were generously invited once again to partner with the Churchill Society for the Advancement of Parliamentary Democracy for their annual Churchill Dinner. Each year at this dinner, the Churchill Society presents the Award for Excellence in the Cause of Parliamentary Democracy Award to a distinguished person who has contributed to Canada’s democracy in important ways. This year, the person whose legacy was celebrated, alongside that of Sir Winston Churchill, was Canada's 22nd Prime Minister: The Right Honourable Stephen J Harper.

The OLIP interns were entrusted with setting up the venue, welcoming guests, providing directions, signing guests in, and other forms of assistance when needed. The Churchill Society generously provided a table for the interns to join the dinner. Not only were the interns served with a delicious meal, but they also learned about the legacy of Sir Winston Churchill in a speech by Canadian historian Tim Cook, After the award was presented, the interns also had the opportunity to attend an interview with the award recipient Mr. Stephen Harper. The highlight of the evening was certainly the chance to take a group picture with former prime minister Mr. Stephen Harper.

The Churchill Society for the Advancement of Parliamentary Democracy is a non-partisan, charitable organization that honours the life of Sir Winston Churchill by facilitating education, discussion and debate about Canada’s parliamentary democracy. Thank you to The Churchill Society for the Advancement of Parliamentary Democracy for inviting the interns to share in this special occasion and to both witness and partake in thought-provoking discussions.
