It was an absolute pleasure to meet the Right Honourable Beverley McLachlin. Chief Justice McLachlin served as the 17th Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Canada between 2000 and 2017 and was the first woman to hold this post. We were excited to have an extensive conversation about her judicial philosophy and her thoughts on some of the pressing issues in the law today. Chief Justice McLachlin’s experiences in the courts and in the law more broadly are extensive and impressive, and served as a true inspiration for us.
Since her time on the Supreme Court, Chief Justice McLachlin has moved on to work on other interesting projects, such as sitting on the boards of non-profits, publishing a legal thriller novel, and taking a place on the Hong Kong Final Court of Appeal and Singapore’s International Commercial Court. Chief Justice McLachlin said that she also enjoys sharing her experiences and advice with young people like us as we try to find their place in the professional world.
