We had the opportunity to meet with Minister Piccini, Minister of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development and MPP for Northumberland—Peterborough South. We enjoyed an engaging discussion centered around his current and previous ministerial portfolio (Minister of Environment) and his position as a young minister at the cabinet table.
It was interesting to hear how Minister Piccini first worked as a bureaucrat and his experience working in the federal public service, before working on a campaign and eventually running for office. He spoke highly of the public service, and then his realization that he wanted to be closer to the action and work in a faster-paced environment. Minister Piccini shared insights into what a change in ministerial portfolio in the middle of a mandate looks like and how to navigate taking on a new portfolio.
We enjoyed picking his brain about labour relations, unions, skills development and the role of the provincial government in attracting and retaining a productive workforce. Thank you to Minister Piccini for meeting with us and if you ever open “Piccini’s Paninis,” we will be your first customers!
