For my second MPP placement, I had the distinct pleasure of being placed with MPP Glover of Spadina-Fort York. As the Shadow Minister for Democratic Reform, Sport and Technology and Innovation, MPP Glover is constantly in action. Over the course of my placement in the office, I gained an appreciation for MPP Glover’s deep commitment to service, justice, and advancing the concerns of the people of Spadina-Fort York.

During my time in the office I had the opportunity to write speeches, conduct research, respond to constituent challenges and even pitch questions for question period. One of my favourite tasks was writing and filming our weekly “1 minute in Ontario politics” videos for social media, through which I tightly summarized the week’s activities. Over the course of my short placement I was able to work on a variety of policy briefs including education funding, transportation developments in Toronto, and the upcoming 202 FIFA World Cup, which will be held in Spadina-Fort York.

A highlight of my placement was working with the highly skilled and capable Glover team: Sam, Alesha, Nancy and Maureen. The advice they provided to me was invaluable, and their knowledge of the riding is impressive. Their commitment to fun and collaboration makes the office a true pleasure to work out of.

Working in a Toronto riding, I was also to spend ample time in the constituency. By participating in local community clean ups, hearing feedback at shelters and touring neighbourhood elementary schools I gained a newfound appreciation for the complexity, diversity and liveliness of Spadina-Fort York. Accompanying MPP Glover throughout the riding allowed me to observe his approach to community building. MPP Glover always prioritizes events in the riding, puts a conscious effort into building relationships with constituents and is keen to hear any concerns or areas for growth.

The entirety of my placement, from my time in the Queen’s Park office to the constituency, was incredibly rewarding. Thank you to MPP Glover and the rest of the team for making the office such a fun, dynamic and interesting place to work.
