For my second placement, I was fortunate enough to work with MPP Doly Begum who represents Scarborough—Southwest. She is the Official Opposition Critic for Public Transit, Equity and Anti-Racism, and one of the Deputy Leaders for the Official Opposition Party.
During my time in her office, I helped organize and facilitate events with various community stakeholders; wrote and assisted in the writing of petitions, social media communications, speeches, and remarks; aided in the drafting of a Private Member’s Bill which was later introduced before the session closed, and performed various diverse tasks related to the ongoings of the office.
I also was able to visit the constituency office multiple times during my tenure which was an absolute pleasure. While in the riding, I assisted in serving the constituency and supported community engagement efforts. Through doing so, I deepened my understanding of the key issues for the community and some of the approaches which the office uses to respond to the constituents’ concerns and needs.
Thank you to MPP Begum and her wonderful team for making me feel welcome and supported throughout my time with the office. I could not have asked for a better second placement!
