The OLIP interns were honoured to meet with MPP Mike Schreiner, Leader of the Green Party of Ontario and MPP for Guelph.
At the outset of our discussion, MPP Schreiner shared how he began his career in the organic food sector, where he worked to promote sustainable food and farming. He reflected on his path into politics and his journey to becoming leader of the Green Party, describing his political work as an ongoing effort to build sustainable, long-term change through collaboration and meaningful public engagement.
MPP Schreiner also highlighted several core priorities of the Green Party of Ontario, including climate and environmental action, basic income, and advancing a proportional representation system. We explored proportional representation in greater depth and learned why he believes it fosters a more inclusive and participatory political culture.
Our conversation extended to a range of topics of interest to our cohort, including artificial intelligence, banking, and other emerging issues. MPP Schreiner shared his perspectives on Ontario’s evolving political landscape and how it intersects with technological advancement, economic shifts, and changing public expectations.
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to MPP Schreiner for taking the time to meet with us. We truly appreciate the thoughtful and engaging discussion, as well as your continued support for OLIP!
