For his first placement, Massimo worked for MPP Hardeep Singh Grewal, the Parliamentary Assistant to Tourism, Culture and Gaming as well as the representative for the riding of Brampton East for the Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario. Along with the other Brampton MPP’s, MPP Grewal is dedicated to serving his city through his role as their representative at Queen’s Park by working hard to ensure the health and safety of his community.

During his placement with MPP Grewal, Massimo had the opportunity to assist with a diverse array of activities, working on both constituency and legislative work. At Queen’s Park, Massimo used his experience as a debating and public speaking coach to help with the formation of discourse and the dissemination of information both to the public and in The House. Additionally, Massimo helped with the formation of parliamentary debate speeches and provided research assistance for integral legislative efforts.

Regarding constituency work, Massimo was fortunate enough to be able to go out to Brampton numerous times to assist in the office in-person. At the Brampton office, Massimo had the opportunity to work with MPP Grewal’s chief of staff, John Chatha, who provided invaluable insight into the importance of public service and the role of the constituency in helping to address the needs of the riding. Under John’s guidance, Massimo aided with public relations and Brampton specific research, developing a better understanding of the needs of the community and the different responsibilities that an MPP fulfills to serve their constituents.

While the election may have cut the placement short, Massimo is leaving this experience with a new perspective and insight into the role of parliament in governance. Massimo is grateful to have had the opportunity to work in the office of MPP Grewal, and is excited to apply the skills and lessons learnt from this experience in his future professional endeavours.
