My first placement was with Government MPP Deepak Anand, representing Mississauga-Malton. During my time with Mr. Anand, I was given the opportunity to involve myself in a variety of legislative matters. I assisted the office in preparing member's statements and remarks on bills. In doing so, I gained insight into the issues shaping Ontario today, including the need for long-term, sustainable energy, coordination of service delivery between the provincial and municipal governments, and educational governance structures. I also conducted background research on homelessness and youth unemployment to help the office keep up to date on complex social issues.

I spent over month working from the Mississauga-Malton office. I had the chance to visit the Peel Children’s Aid Society and see the amazing work they do in supporting victims of domestic violence, vulnerable families, and at-risk youth. I also attended the 2026 pre-budget consultation in Mississauga and heard from over 50 stakeholders. Additionally, I accompanied MPP Anand to the Peel Regional Summit on Extortion and learned about how extortion-related crimes disproportionately impact those living in Peel region, and especially impact South-Asian communities.

Yet, the highlight of my experience was my involvement on MPP Anand’s Private Member’s Bill. I assisted in brainstorming, researching and drafting the bill. I sat in with Mr. Anand on meetings with stakeholders and helped collect letters of support. Most crucially, I learned all about the internal process through which a private member’s bill is introduced in the House.

MPP Anand and his office trusted in my ability to do good work and meaningfully contribute. At the same time, they provided a safe space for me to learn and receive feedback. I am very grateful for the experience and eagerly look forward to hearing Mr. Anand’s private member’s bill be introduced next September.
