For my fall placement, I am privileged to work alongside MPP Deepak Anand. MPP Anand represents the incredibly diverse riding of Mississauga—Malton, and serves as a special advisor to the Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation, and Trade. He is Chair of the Standing Committee on Regulations and Private Bills, and a Member of the Standing Committee on Public Accounts.
Before being elected in 2018, MPP Anand was actively involved in the community, and he has directed various social agencies like Telecare Brampton and Indus Community Services. This wealth of experience has materialized into several local projects. For example, his office champions outreach and engagement through fun events like virtual bingo nights, and prior to the pandemic, they were facilitating getting breakfast to schools across the riding for students.
Recently, I have been assisting the office in researching for MPP Anand’s Private Member’s Bill (PMB), briefing him on Legislative proceedings, writing speeches, and participating in the recently rebooted Mississauga-Malton Youth Council.
I am very excited to learn more about issues important to MPP Anand while working on projects important to him and the people of Mississauga-Malton. I am also inspired by his commitment to community building, youth empowerment, local employment, and education. I am grateful to be joining MPP Anand and his fantastic team consisting of Anushka, Cameron, Preeti, and Sonia who have given me a heartfelt welcome.
