We were honoured to visit the offices of Ontario Power Generation, the crown corporation responsible for over half of Ontario’s electricity generation. It was a pleasure to speak with Timothy Gopaul, Senior Manager Provincial Government Relations, and two of our energy expert alumni: Jake Sikora, Senior Manager Stakeholder and Government Relations and David Donavan, VP Corporate Business Development and Strategy.

It was wonderful to continue our journeys exploring Ontario energy as we learned about OPG’s ongoing projects and future goals, as well as how these projects have adapted over the years with different governments and policy priorities. We discussed projects like the proposed Wesleyville plant, and developments to the Bruce and Pickering sites. It was fascinating to learn about the long-term work that goes into projects like these, not only on the technical infrastructure side, but also in creating relationships with local Indigenous and community groups in the proposed areas. Transitioning from nuclear, we also had the opportunity to learn about OPG's origins in hydroelectricity, and the redevelopment opportunities for assets in this space that could lead to more clean, affordable energy.

With Ontario serving as a leader in sustainable energy across the globe, OPG’s work presents direct examples for us to learn from as we move forward in our careers.

It was also wonderful to hear about Jake and David's OLIP years, and how they were able to transition their experience into the high-level work they now do in government and energy. During their internship year, they had the energy "spark," and were able to use that passion and expertise to further the provinces endevours in energy and environment through their work in various ministerial offices. With Ontario being a leader in the energy sector, it is no surprise to see OLIP alumni at the forefront of it

Thank you, Tim, Jake, David and Shawn, for welcoming us to your office and teaching us how to keep our future work "under budget, and ahead of schedule"- the OPG way. We would also like to extend our gratitude to OPG for your longtime support of our programme!
