Partner Perspectives: Loblaw Companies Ltd.

The OLIP interns greatly appreciated meeting with Alain Brandon, Vice President of Government and Industry Relations, with Loblaw Companies Ltd.

Founded in 1919, Loblaw now serves as the parent company operating some of Canada’s most well-known retailers, including Loblaws, NoFrills, Shopper’s DrugMart, and their associated independent brands.

Over the course of our conversation, we had the opportunity to discuss the history and evolution of Loblaw over the years, as well as their perspectives in navigating fluctuating economies and new governments. It was fascinating to learn about the nuances of growth, particularly in the context of competitive global markets and their impacts on product sourcing and pricing. Within that space, we also spoke to innovative restructuring models and sustainable practices, as well as emerging issues like retail crime and their corresponding climates.

Altogether, it was a very enlightening discussion that allowed us to gain many new insights and takeaways regarding Loblaw’s retailer approaches.
