It was an immense pleasure to meet with our partner, the Ontario Nurses Association (ONA). Founded in 1973, ONA is the trade union that represents 60,000 registered nurses and allied health professionals working in hospitals, long-term care facilities, public health, community agencies and industry throughout the province of Ontario.
The interns had a wonderful discussion with Imreet Kaur Grewal and Andre Fast. Imreet and Andre both work as Government and External Relations Specialists with the ONA. They provided us with a fantastic slideshow about some of ONA’s advocacy work. Naturally, much of our discussion focused on the pressing issues facing the nursing profession in Ontario. They specifically highlighted a few of their many advocacy efforts, including issues such as nursing ratios and increased violence in the workplace.
We also discussed how they collaborate with other groups and sectors to help promote their messaging – overall giving fantastic insights the work of ONA and the teams philosophy to advocacy.
Thank you to Imreet and Andre for taking the time to meet with us and discuss the nursing profession in Ontario, and to the ONA for their continued, generous support of the OLIP program!
