A consistent highlight for OLIP interns is our annual visit to the CBC headquarters in downtown Toronto!

The Canadian Broadcast Corporation, or CBC, is the Canadian broadcaster for both radio and television. We were treated to a comprehensive tour of the CBC facilities by Mark Mietkiewicz, Senior Manager of Staff Development and Coordinator of the CBC internship program, who has worked at CBC for over 40 years! In fact, the OLIP interns were one of Mr. Mietkiewicz’s last tours – happy retirement Mr. Mietkiewicz!

During our visit we saw firsthand the process of live news recording of both television and radio segments. We met with production staff and had the unique opportunity to learn about the technical aspects of production and recording.

We also met with Mike Crawley, a reporter at Queen’s Park since 2009, and had the opportunity to ask about his experience covering the recent election, the changes he has witnessed in reporting on Ontario politics, and other burning questions. This year, the interns have greatly enjoyed meeting with journalists and learning about the relationship between media and the government, and this meeting was no exception! We also ran into the host of CBC’s Metro Morning, David Common, who shared with us the process of preparing and delivering this radio show.

Thank you to CBC for welcoming us and to Mr. Mietkiewicz was the informative tour! We greatly appreciate the support that you have provided to OLIP over the years.
