The OLIP interns recently had the pleasure of meeting with Tim Gray, Executive Director of Environmental Defence Canada.
Gray outlined Environmental Defence Canada’s various areas of focus, which include climate change, plastic pollution, and protecting Ontario’s Great Lakes. We discussed Environmental Defence Canada’s theory of change and the organization’s various advocacy tactics. Gray spoke about the importance of on-the-ground community engagement and described how EDC works with partners both within and beyond Queen’s Park to advance environmental policy gains. We found it particularly interesting to learn about collaboration among non-profits working on environmental policy.
Our conversation extended into a discussion on how to craft effective communication materials. Tim shared insights into how his team translates complex environmental policy issues into a tangible, relatable, and actionable format.
Thank you, Tim, for taking the time out of your week to share your experience with us!
