Legislative Placements: James with Parliamentary Protocol and Public Relations (PPPR)

Updated: 6 days ago

Parliamentary Protocol and Public Relations (PPPR) is a unique branch of the legislature because of the wide variety of responsibilities it has. Anything from flag raising, intergovernmental relations, special events to outreach, the page program, and the guided tours fall under its purview. Thanks to its broad scope, I was fortunate to be exposed to such diverse tasks as event planning, outreach, research, cold calling, and ceremony support.

What struck me the most about my placement is the people. Everyone at PPPR is so kind, generous and passionate about representing the legislative building. I was so fortunate to accompany the outreach team to a middle school in Oakville to give a presentation on the legislative process to a group of students. Watching the students learning and engaging in the parliamentary process is truly inspiring. In addition, I was invited to numerous flag raising ceremonies, connecting with and celebrating the diverse cultures and communities of Ontario.

I am grateful for this special opportunity and would like to thank Debi, Eric, Anna, Rosemary, Sarah and Jelena for making me feel like a part of the PPPR family. I am glad to be able to contribute in my limited time to the incredible work that they do on a daily basis to maintain relationships with various communities, educate the public about the legislative building, and promote the myriad programmes it offers to families across Ontario.
