Leslie de Meulles
Leslie de Meulles is originally from Sudbury, Ontario. She first completed her undergraduate degree at Carleton University and has most recently finished her M.A. in political science at McGill University in Montreal where she had the opportunity to work as a bilingual teaching assistant. For her M.A. thesis on Canadas Indian Residential School Truth and Reconciliation Commission, she traced the history of Aboriginal policy concurrent with the development of residential schools and analyzed whether policy today has the potential to effectively address the legacy of the residential schools on the Aboriginal community. The documentaries of Canadian Alanis Obomsawin as well as her internship at the International Centre for Transitional Justice in New York City piqued Leslie's interest in Aboriginal politics. Her other academic interests also include Northern development and environmental sustainability. Leslie eagerly awaits the opportunities OLIP brings to experience policy formation first-hand. Aside from her academic interests, Leslie has played varsity ultimate frisbee, representing both Carleton and McGill at the national level. In her spare time, Leslie volunteers at 6 St. Joseph House, an organization dedicated to responding to the challenges of homelessness in downtown Toronto and also loves to play music and cook with friends.
OLIP Committee Chair: Churchill Society for the Advancement of Parliamentary Democracy Representative
